hello,

there is no need to downgrade plesk9 to plesk8 . plesk9 is working well , maybe it uses a bit more memory but it is fine. what exactly hangs on your plesk?
so, as far as I know you can't convert plesk9 backup to plesk8 backup (see http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=91028).
also when you upgrade to plesk 9 your plesk license automatically upgrades to plesk9 license (same for plesk 9.5 , last version) and maybe only your provider can roll back you license.

Hi,

Unfortunately you can’t do that without shell access . you can ask your hosting provider to do that for you (it's quite easy) as well as you can install a plesk9 in a vmware linux machine (I will not need a license) and copy your backups there , convert them and then upload to your plesk9 account.

Early Plesk 9 did not ship with migration manager so I had to use this when migrating sites from a Plesk 8 server to a Plesk 9 server. It worked fine.
